Traditional technologies for investment cast part de-coring can be costly and have negative environmental impact with large residual waste stream footprints. The utilized processes can often result in the poor levels of core removal, promoting fault forward situations that can impact the productivity of downstream processes and reduce the production system’s throughput. Some of the available processes put the actual part at risk of physical damage. The accumulated effect of high energy usage, generation of high volumes of discharge waste, low levels of cleanliness achieved, and risk of possible part damage resulted in a greater need for a Green Approach to investment cast part de-coring.
KMT Robotic Solutions has developed a Green solution to automate de-coring processes without the need for caustic bath soaking. This solution makes use of a 6-axis robot utilizing high pressure water to provide the right amount of de-coring “energy” to 100% of the part to be cleaned. These systems utilize much lower volumes of water to remove unwanted materials such as ceramic shell, core and scale from parts at a much higher efficiency, with higher levels of cleanliness, with higher reliability and with less discharge waste.
In this multi-media presentation KMT Robotic Solutions will overview the key considerations, features, functions and benefits of this new approach to de-coring.
