Investment Casters face three fundamental issues during the mold drying phase of production. The success or failure of the drying process is a function of:

1. The amount of air circulated into drying areas
2. The temperature of that air
3. The humidity of that air

Recent innovations in the treatment of process air have led to fundamental improvements in controlling all three of the variables mentioned above. This paper will discuss how the use of liquid desiccant technology creates production environments that improve mold drying outcomes while maximizingenergy savings.
Specifically addressed in this paper will be why liquid desiccants are superior to conventional air conditioning in regards to:

• optimizing airflow
• precise humidity and temperature control
• decreasing mold dry times
• improving quality control/reducing rejection rate
• removal of airborne contaminants

The paper will provide a brief primer on the types of air treatment that are appropriate for Investment Casting, and then focus on liquid desiccants ability to make production more efficient and less costly.
