Possible shell performance improvements of wide distribution stucco blends upon two common engineered shell systems were presented at the 13th World Conference on Investment Casting in Spring 2012. Two slurry systems were used to study ten stucco distributions. The stucco blends were based upon three different standard investment casting sizes: 10x20, 30x50, 50x100, all leaning toward the 30x50 corner of the three component (ternary) system. Additional new data now composes over 26 shell systems and 2496 MOR shell breaks alone in this two paper study.
This paper will discuss the results from the second round of testing. This study focused upon a smaller area even closer to the 30x50 corner of th ternary system mentioned. Three new ternary stucco blends (six shell systems) were chosen and used alongside four stucco blend data points from the prior study. This combination was chosen to enhance the resolution of a region of interest closer to the 30x50 corner of the ternary system.
