Background: O’Fallon Casting has been in operation since 1969 and was part of a large enterprise prior to its being spun-off as an independent small business in 2003. Having been part of a large organization the new company benefitted from already having a sophisticated set of business systems and controls. However, its legacy electronic business systems were limited in scope and being supported by various free-standing and non-integrated systems that required redundant entry of information and created multiple opportunities for human error.
O’Fallon Casting’s vision was to implement a fully integrated and paperless system that would provide high levels of clarity and control to the organization and thus better levels of service to its customers.
Castit developed and provided the ERP software package to support the vision. Modules of the package were implemented at O’Fallon Casting one at a time. As each module was introduced, O’Fallon Casting ran parallel systems for a periods of time to prove out the system. The ERP software went fully live in November of 2008 and the software introduction was fully seamless to OFC’s customers. As envisioned, O’Fallon Casting’s performance metrics have continue to show year over year improvement as a result of the heightened levels of operational clarity and control provided by the ERP software.
The Case Study will review the steps that were taken to ensure the successful implementation of this ERP System. It will review the decisions on scope and scale for the ERP System and address the need for ownership commitment, single point-of–contact and outline hardware requirements.
